Incoming sixth graders are required to read Wonder by R.J. Palacio and New Kid by Jerry Craft. Be sure to read (or reread) Wonder and New Kid at the end of the summer. This way the books will be fresh in your mind when school begins.
We also warmly encourage you to read a book or two from the summer reading list compiled by our MCDS librarians. Read, read, and read this summer!
We are excited that local author Danielle Svetcov will be joining us for our annual book fair this November. Please consider reading her book, Parked. When Jeanne Ann and her mom move to San Francisco in their old orange van Carrot and the hoped for job falls through, they find themselves homeless, living in the van illegally parked in the Marina along with others in the same boat. Across the street in one of the luxury homes facing the bay, lives Cal, a good-hearted artist who becomes a friend and ally. With humor and grace, the author brings a very real face to this issue.
Upper school students have access to Overdrive over this summer. This is a platform that allows check outs of ebooks that can be read on your computer, iPad, Kindle, Nook, or other devices. To check them out and view a list of ebooks that are on the summer reading lists, go to the Sora app or website.Just log in with your MCDS username (the part before the @ in your school e-mail) and password.
Having trouble picking which book to read? Try watching some book trailers. These videos contain author interviews, book summaries, and other information to help you pick.
