(Click the link above to see a Google doc of this year's summer reading list.) Entering 7th graders must read Hungry Hearts edited by Elsie Chapman plus two books from this list. Entering 7th graders have no written assignments due. However, here are three key points to remember: 1. Keep a list of everything you read and feel free to read beyond the minimum two book requirement.
2. Read the required text (Hungry Hearts) at the end of the summer, so that it remains fresh in your memory for September. You will be discussing and writing about this book during the first weeks of school, and it is essential that you be prepared.
3. Underline and flag significant passages from the book, looking for key moments in character and plot development and passages you find especially well written and interesting as well as any passages where you have questions. Look up words you don't know. Read actively.
Upper school students have access to Overdrive over this summer. This is a platform that allows check outs of ebooks that can be read on your computer, iPad, Kindle, Nook, or other devices. To check them out and view a list of ebooks that are on the summer reading lists, go to the Sora app or website.Just log in with your MCDS username (the part before the @ in your school e-mail) and password.
