Entering 8th graders have no written assignments due. However, here are three key points to remember:
Entering 8th graders must read American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang plus two books from this list.
Keep a list of everything you read and feel free to read beyond the minimum two book requirement.
Using post-it notes or a separate document, please highlight and take notes on important scenes or character development in American Born Chinese as you read the story. Look up words you don't know. Read actively.
Upper school students have access to Overdrive over this summer. This is a platform that allows check outs of ebooks that can be read on your computer, iPad, Kindle, Nook, or other devices. To check them out and view a list of ebooks that are on the summer reading lists, go to the Sora app or website.Just log in with your MCDS username (the part before the @ in your school e-mail) and password.
Having trouble picking which book to read? Try watching some book trailers. These videos contain author interviews, book summaries, and other information to help you pick.
