7th Grade 2023 Summer Reading

(Click the link above to see a Google doc of this year's summer reading list.)

Entering 7th graders are required to:
  • Read four stories of your choice from Hungry Hearts edited by Elsie Chapman
  • Read the following story selections from Hungry Hearts:
    • "Rain"
    • "Slender One"
    • "Kings and Queens"
    • "Gimme Some Sugar"
  • Read two books from the list

Entering 7th graders have no written assignments due. However, here are three key points to remember:
  1. Keep a list of everything you read and feel free to read beyond the minimum two book requirement.
  2. Read the selections from the required text (Hungry Hearts) along with four of your choosing, at the end of the summer, so that it remains fresh in your memory for September. You will be discussing and writing about this book during the first weeks of school, and it is essential that you be prepared.
  3. Underline and flag significant passages from the book, looking for key moments in character and plot development and passages you find especially well written and interesting as well as any passages where you have questions.  Look up words you don't know.  Read actively.
