The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands is a thriller/mystery/fantasy that takes place in mid-1600s London. In the book, Christopher, the main character, is an apprentice to Benedict Blackthorn, an apothecary. An apothecary is a person who makes helpful remedies out of many exotic and rare materials. In the book, there is a chain of apothecary murders spreading throughout London. Christopher teams up with his best friend Tom to find the culprit/s. While they are doing this, they find out that Benedict was working on something shady, something mysterious. And when the murders come closer to the Blackthorn shop than ever before, Christopher's life is thrown into peril.... I like this book because it has so many twists and turns and it is full of mystery. It is also super interesting and time will fly by super quickly while reading this book. I think mystery and thriller readers will love this book.

I like The One And Only Ivan because it is from an animal's perspective. Ivan is a gorilla who is in captivity (not a zoo.) Ivan wants to be free, Ivan wants to live in a nice zoo. Ivan is not able to tell people that he is unhappy. Will Ivan ever be free? I really like this book, and hope you will too.

The Mechanical Mind of John Coggin is very fast paced and action packed. John (11) and his sister Page (I think 6 or 7) are orphans and live with their mean great aunt. Johns job is to make coffins, which he is particularly good at. They go on a trip to a beach for Johns eleventh birthday. John and Page decide to run away with a mysterious character named Boz. From there, John and Page go to many different places. This book is great for people who like action packed books, or people who like somewhat realistic fiction.

Skyjacked is perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying. It is just as fast-paced and entertaining, yet remains unique from Karen McMannus’ book because of the interesting setting. Murder mystery romance lovers alike will find this book as a new favorite.
